English Drama & Debating Club

Peripeteia-event-2016.jpg

The English Drama and Debating Club (EDDC) enables members to learn different skills.
In Drama, we analyse characters and learn to think in the characters’ shoes besides different production roles such as stage manager and the lighting and sound crew.  In Debate, we research for information to craft our speeches in a structured and persuasive manner.  Practice sessions and competitions enable us to acquire a myriad of experiences and help us to hone our public speaking and communication skills.

This year, EDDC participated in the Singapore Youth Festival (SYF) Arts Presentation (Drama).  Our members endured long hours of training and rehearsing and never gave up; the Distinction we managed to attain is a testament to our consistent effort and relentless pursuit of excellence!  EDDC also took part in other events such as Recollections on National Day and a play, ‘Future Perfect’ at the annual Cultural Potpourri.

Members participated in competitions like the Raffles Debate Academy Under-14 Debating Championships and the Singapore Secondary Schools Debating Championships in addition to performing and sharing about current affairs with the school through their involvement in school programmes such as Nan Hua Speaks.  EDDC also reached out to the community through Values in Action programmes such as organising games as well as drama and speech workshops for primary school children.  It was a rewarding experience as we brought joy to these children even as we learnt how to interact and communicate with them.  Our Drama and Debate Camp during the June holidays helped to strengthen the bonds among CCA members and honed our performing and debating skills through enriching workshops.
