Camp Achiever 2018

Our annual school-wide camp - Camp Achiever (consisting of Camp Genesis, Cultural, Vigour and Horizon) was attended by all students and aimed to develop confident, self-directed learners who can contribute to the society and our nation!

Camp Genesis was organised for Sec 1 students, with student councillors as well as ex-student helpers from the 2017 graduating cohort leading our new Nanhuarians in the camp activities. Highlights of the camp included the Campfire Night, Ceremonial Walk, and meaningful interaction sessions with their Sec 2 seniors. Through these activities, the Sec 1 students enjoyed themselves tremendously as they forged new friendships and developed a strong school spirit.

Camp Cultura provided the Sec 2 students with a good opportunity to boost the class spirit and learn more about different cultures. Classes learnt different art forms and also put their creative juices together to come up with innovative performances for Cultural Night on the evening of Day 2. Together with other enriching activities such as the amazing race at Chinatown, students were given a greater insight into the cultural influences on our diverse Singapore community!

Camp Vigour saw our Sec 3 students embark on an outdoor adventure camp at Sarimbun Campsite. Gaining new experiences, the students immersed themselves in a variety of outdoor adventure activities such as rock-climbing, zip line, abseiling and outdoor cooking. They also had the opportunity to serve the community through a range of VIA Projects. These activities definitely served to strengthen the bonds not only within individual classes, but also throughout the level!

Camp Horizon, conducted for the Sec 4 students, strengthens class spirit and prepares students for life beyond their secondary school years. Students were given the opportunity to visit Institutes of Higher Learning (IHLs) to find out more about future pathways beyond secondary school, and also to gain motivation to study hard for the year ahead. They also enjoyed a fine dining lunch experience, and learned the art of fine dining putting their skills to effect. Later that evening, the students embarked on an 11km Night Walk to test their endurance. The arduous journey was a physical and mental challenge, but with the constant encouragement shared among their peers, all the students made it to the end. It was definitely an enjoyable time completing the task together with their friends, teachers and seniors.

Camp Achiever was an opportunity for students to develop the right values in life. While having four different sub-camps enabled learning of specifically-identified skills, all four sub-camps certainly incorporated the element of fun in developing greater school and community spirit for our students!

Students’ Voices:

After attending Camp Genesis, I feel happy and proud to be part of 101 as we won an award for being 1st Runner-up as well as for having the best class flag. This was largely due to our teamwork and sportsmanship of the entire class. Camp Genesis definitely helped me to become a cultured and confident Nanhuarian. These three days were not only fun, but was also a memorable experience.

- Ong En Keat, 101

Camp Cultura was an enriching experience for me as I learnt more about different cultures, such as the art of Chinese Tea, Wushu, Indian Dance and Hip Hop. This culminated to our class performance brought on by teamwork and the cultural dances that we had learnt. My favourite segment was definitely embarking on an amazing race at Chinatown which gave us a better understanding of the diverse cultures in Singapore.

- Ella Poh, 201

Camp Vigour – a new journey that allowed me to step out of my comfort zone and interact with my classmates. The obstacle challenge allowed me to overcome my fears with courage and at the same time, encourage my classmates to do their best.

- Vania Lim, 305

Camp Horizon was a great experience. After attending this camp, I gained a better understanding of the various post-secondary school education pathways. In addition, I am more confident of my capabilities after having acquired basic knowledge of proper dining etiquette and built on my resilience during the night walk. Overall, I find Camp Horizon an enjoyable learning experience.
