Centennial Dinner on 15th July 2017 at Marina Bay Sands Grand Ballroom
On 15 July, our year-long centennial celebrations ended with a big bang at Marina Bay Sands Grand Ballroom where we held our Centennial Dinner. The annual Cultural Potpourri, aptly named Centennial Opus, was also integrated into the Centennial Dinner to provide students an opportunity to showcase their talents to the Nan Hua Family gathered for the occasion.
Through the presentation of drama, music pieces, songs and dance at three different venues, the eight Performing Arts groups showcased their talents and impressed the guests gathered for the occasion with their splendid performances.
The Centennial Dinner was graced by Deputy Prime Minister Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam as its Guest of Honour. In his speech, Mr Tharman recognised the school’s efforts in holistic education and credited the school’s emphasis on character education for helping Singapore develop strong individuals as well as a strong society.
Another highlight of the dinner was the unveiling of the Urban Redevelopment Authority’s (URA) storyboard of Nam Wah Girls’ School campus at 2 Adis Road which was officiated by Mr Tharman. The creation of the storyboard is a significant milestone in the school’s history as our heritage is preserved through the conservation of our old school building.
Emotions ran high as our school song was sung by all staff, students and guests as a finale item and this marked a befitting close to the school’s Centennial celebrations.
